What is Litho Printing?

Modern litho printing utilises very sophisticated ‘big grey machines’ operated by skilled minders. Traditional metal ‘plates’ are created with the image to be printed and using the principle that oil and water don’t mix and lots of science that we don’t need to understand at this point they put actual ink with real pigments onto the paper at very high speeds.

Why does Simply Letterheads prefer litho printing to digital printing?

1. Litho printing can accurately print ANY of the thousands of ink colours available – digital will normally be an approximation.

2. Litho presses are expensive to set up BUT once running are very economical. Up to about 700 sheets digital presses can be cheaper – over this quantity litho nearly always wins.

3. We can guarantee that letterheads printed using a litho press can be put through an office laser printer. Digitally printed sheets have a tendency to ‘re-melt’ the toner used causing no end of interesting results.

4. Litho presses can print on virtually any paper including textured and papers with special finishes. There is a much more limited range available for digital presses.
